Abstract
Background: We evaluated a new portable blood glucose meter, HemoCue (HemoCue AB, Angelholm, Sweden) which adopts the glucose dehydrogenase based spectrophotometry method.

Methods and Results: The within-rum imprecisions (CV) of HemoCue Glucose were ranged from 1.32% to 3.18%. The between-run imprecisions (CV) were ranged from 1.60% to 2.10%. The linearity study revealed R©÷=0.9844 (p=0.0001) in HemoCue Glucose. The correlation equations
and coefficients of four portable blood glucose meters (Y); compared with Hitachi 747 (Hitachi, Japan) as the laboratory reference (X) were Y=0.85X-12.17, R©÷=0.9328 (p=0.0001) in Accutrend (Boeringer Mannheim, Melpitas, CA), Y=1.12X-7.44, R©÷=0.9755 (p=0.0001) in Glucocard (Kyoto Daiichi Kagaku, Kyoto, japan) and Y=0.93X+7.87, R©÷=0.9773) (p=0.0001) in HemoCue Glucose, which showed best correlation among them.

Conclusions: HemoCue Glucose was satisfactory in results of within-run and between-run precisios. HemoCue Glucose also showed acceptable results linearity. HemoCue Glucose showed best correlation with Hitachi 747 among four portable blood glucose meters.
